CAEB was delighted to take part in the first Community Appointment Day (CAD) at Chalvey Community Centre, hosted by Berkshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
CADs are an innovative approach to delivering healthcare, bringing services directly into community settings – like leisure centres or town halls – rather than traditional clinical environments. The event is designed to be more holistic, accessible and person-centred, allowing patients to express broader concerns, like mental health, housing or social support. CADs remove barriers to good healthcare, empowering patients to self-manage their conditions with support from multiple services in one place. CADs also support the NHS’s broader goals of preventative care and early intervention to help reduce pressure on key services.
On discussing the event, CAEB assessor, Neha Patel said:
It was a really positive event and a fantastic opportunity to connect with people attending their check-ups. The day was well organised with a passport system to direct members of the public to the stands most relevant to them. Many were referred to Citizens Advice East Berkshire or to other relevant services such as Adult Social Care, the Arthritis Society and Berkshire Vision. It was great to see so many organisations coming together to support the community. We also had the chance to network with other teams and organisations on the day. It was a really positive event, and definitely one we’d be happy to support again in the future.
