Frontline advice at St James’s Palace

CAEB’s wonderful Jodie had a day with a difference involving a high-spirited calf and making the King himself laugh.

Jodie, Information Assistant at Bracknell, Crowthorne and Sandhurst Foodbanks,  was invited to the garden of St James’s Palace in London for a celebratory reception with HRH King Charles on September 30.

She said: “The King invited different charities that work with him to an event to celebrate all of their successes. I was invited by the King’s Trust [formerly the Prince’s Trust} to come along and speak about what I do.”

Jodie was invited to be an ambassador to talk about her Citizens Advice work, particularly CAEB’s collaboration with the foodbanks. She has been an official Young Ambassador for the King’s Trust since March.

Guests enjoyed croissants, fruit kebabs and treats from the Duchy brand. The event also featured some unexpected entertainment.

“I petted an 11-month-old brown calf called Poppy,” Jodie said. “She was supposed to stay in one area, but it wasn’t easy! She even damaged a bush – the King wasn’t too happy, so I reminded him she was only a baby.”

Jodie made sure to extend an invitation of her own, asking the King to visit Citizens Advice in Bracknell.

While Queen Victoria was famously not amused’, Jodie succeeded in delighting her great-great-great-grandson, King Charles.

“I joked that because the cow was brown, maybe it gives chocolate milk,” Jodie said. “Then I told him my Citizens Advice team is probably better than his and the King chuckled about that!”

What an experience – and what a wonderful ambassador for CAEB and the King’s Trust. Thank you, Jodie.
